Since Access can be found on all computers, many users think that it is a good way of developing database applications for process environments on their own. This erroneous trend is also the result of outdated PIS systems which are frequently purchased and then “beautified” for the management using this argument.
The result – chaos! Billions of data records are collected in colorful private applications, which are not available to the systems of the environment. The companies are dependent on the developers, and each change costs time, money and nerves.
In 1997, CIBA Additive and atlan-tec developed Prompt™, an ORACLE application, with the aim to bring some order to this chaos. Systematic methods, open data tables and interfaces, and a flexible and configurable data model create order. Prompt™ can be configured with a local model (e.g. system – apparatus – measurement location), into which lab data, process control system data, shift log entries, variables, batch numbers etc. are added.
Prompt™ is the optimum synthesis between an open configurable database, graphics of a modern PIMS, configurable reports and SAP interfaces. They offer the user all the freedoms of programming, and present a uniform modern system with a successful user interface
